Feather & Fan...

Every week I receive emails asking about my version of the Feather & Fan cloth, so I worked on this post all week to address the questions (for those of you who have no interest in knitting, stop reading now and come back next Friday, when I may talk about other stuff).

I use the Feather and Fan Dishcloth pattern from the Dishcloth Boutique.

Modified Feather and Fan Cloth pattern on Ravelry.

If you look at the pattern, you will see Row 7 says Knit. I don’t. I purl the row, except for the first and last 3 sts. This is the only change I’ve made to the design.

I use a 4mm (US6) because I tend to knit loosely. I work 12 repeats of the 4-row pattern (12 lace rows), so 48 rows for the pattern, plus the garter stitch rows at the beginning and end. The finished size of my cloths after blocking is approximately 7-1/2” x 8-1/4”.

I block my finished cloths by lightly pressing with the steam iron on the wrong side, swooshing over the pattern until it lies flat - swoosh, swoosh, swoosh. The gentle steaming smoothes the wrinkles and stops the tendency to curl.

Hopefully I’ve covered everything you ever wanted to know on this subject and then some. If you have questions I haven’t addressed, send me an email and I’ll do my best to answer.

Snack time in the peanut gallery…

See you next Friday and I hope your week is a peaceful one.
